NSW: Storm clean-up should be mostly done by weekend

SYDNEY, Jan 17 AAP - The NSW government has declared the Tweed Shire a natural disasterarea after storms devastated the state's far north coast last night.

NSW Premier Bob Carr made the declaration during a visit to the area which was hitby large hailstones, fierce winds and heavy rain.

The storms felled trees and power lines, caused local flash flooding and seriouslydamaged hundreds of homes in the region.

About 20,000 homes in the Northern Rivers region were blacked out by the storm, withapproximately 100 properties still without power tonight, …
