HOW THE MARKETS REACTED



Local markets were mixed with most regaining some of the lost ground from yesterday's
major falls, but they remain on a knife-edge awaiting the outcome in the US overnight.



Australian All Ordinaries index - up 66.5 points to 2986.5

Australian S&P ASX 200 index - up 66.4 points to 3010.3

Australian dollar - down almost one US cent to 59.36

Australian 10 year bonds - yields rose to 6.18 per cent

Japan's Nikkei 225 stock average - down 39.12 points to 18,969.52

Hong Kong Hang Seng index - up 515.95 points to 15,278.32

New Zealand NZSE 40 index - up 21.23 points to 1995.01

Philippines PSE stock index - up 10.59 points to 1,648.13

South Korean Kospi index - up 39.58 points to 747.30

Wall Street's Dow Jones index - up 276.74 points to 10,582.51

Wall Street's Nasdaq index - up 217.87 points to 3,539.16
