FED:Sir Zelman proud of Jewish heritage, son

The son of former governor general Sir ZELMAN COWEN has told mourners his father wore
his Jewish heritage with pride.

A state funeral for Sir COWEN is underway at a Melbourne synagogue.

Dr SHIMON COWEN has told those at the service that his father identified with the plight
of the physical and spiritual entity of the Jewish people unequivocally and in perfect
tandem with his service of Australia and all humanity.

Sir ZELMAN, who served as governor-general from December 1977 to July 1982, died in
his Toorak home last Thursday.

He had suffered Parkinson's disease for the last 15 years of his life.
